Dental Implants

One of the most life changing services we offer at our Scottsdale, AZ practice is a restorative process that has the ability to replace your natural teeth called dental implant procedure. Dental implants can give patients who have lost teeth or are looking at tooth loss as a possibility, a way to replace their teeth in both form and function. We understand how hard it can be to lose teeth and the negative impact that it can have on your life, so we are thankful and excited to offer our patients an option that can make a meaningful impact on their oral health and their life.

How can dental implants help me?

People who are looking at dental implants as a possibility are mostly people who are facing tooth loss or who are currently missing teeth. A dental implant has the ability to offer these patients the following tooth replacement benefits:

• Ability to chew
• Ability to speak
• Maintaining proper facial structure
• Bone loss prevention
• Maintain healthy bone levels
• Confidence in their smile
• Multipurpose anchor for many tooth replacement options

The most direct benefits that a patient will experience when they have a dental implant placed is they are given the ability to use their new implant exactly as they would their normal tooth. This means essential activities like eating and speaking are able to be carried out with no discomfort or additional effort. Not being able to enjoy your food in the way you normally would can have such an impressive negative impact – many patients who have the procedure done say that just being able to eat an apple again makes it worth it.

What does the procedure involve?

Dental implant procedures start with a titanium post being placed in your jaw by a specialist. Titanium is a biocompatible metal that will allow the bone in the jaw to fuse with it. This post resembles a blunt-tipped screw. Once the post has been placed, we will allow the implant to rest in your jaw for anywhere up to nine months in order to recover.

Once the site has healed around the post you can come back to our office for your second visit. During this appointment, we will fit the post with what is called an abutment. The abutment is what connects to the top of the post and gives the crown a place to be attached to. Think of the abutment as a simple go-between for the crown to attach to the post.

Once the abutment has been placed we can fit the crown onto the implant. The crown is specially designed in our dental lab to mimic the size and shape of your original tooth. The goal is to provide you with a crown that will fit your bite perfectly in both shape and appearance. We very carefully match the color of your teeth to that of the crown to give you a flawless replacement that no one will ever notice.
